As another exception you can have for example Catasetum x Cymbidium.... Two genera belonging to two different tribes (or subtribes, depending on which school of taxonomy you follow) which sometimes can be hybridize. However, this hybfids are exceptions to the rule and very difficult to be made...

Actually, crossing within the same alliance is an almost 100% success warranty (not always, tough!). These genera are always very closely related and therefore you have less genetic incompatibility.... Crossing within the same Subtribe gives also a high percentage of success, but less than wihin the same alliance... Within the same tribe, the rate of success is reduced once again... The difficult (impossible in many cases) is when you try to cross between tribes

Anyone sure that the tags didn't get switched? What does your P. villosum look like? Because your "C. schilleriana" is, in fact, a P. villosum.
