I know I was not expecting the plant to be this large I in fact did not know Cattleya Mossiae got this large. The growths are quite compact very close together. And every old growth has a spent spike stump

It's like they took the plant in my dreams........and topped that! Now its gonna be a challenge to keep the plant in that condition cuz its so amazing. if I could just make a 4 bud spike next spring on both plants I will feel very accomplished

I bought them back inside because I have a rampant squirrel problem and I don't wanna wake up and see shredded buds on the table. I know that I would say very bad words and maybe cry lol.

Here's an advance photo of the flowers from your smaller 4" pot plant .. C mossiae s.a. 'H&R'. The photo is the original source plant of your mericlone plant. Mericlones frequently begin blooming at a smaller size than seed propagated seedlings of the same cross or species.

The petals of typical C mossiae flowers droop a little (look at the center rib of the petals & you will notice that they angle downward from center to tips)

The petals on your 4" mericlone (the smaller plant) will not angle downward as a typical C mossiae flower does. In addition, the petals are much broader than typical flowers & the lip is much fuller.

Just curious ... did both of your plants cost $30 each.

Thanks for that info it was greatly appreciated I did not know that. let's just say I paid more for the Chadwick plant, can't you tell, hahah it's huge!? I will have great fun growing my H&R plant to the size of the Chadwick plant!! And I know the quality of the H&R plants flowers will be excellent! I actually find the droop of the mossiae attractive. So I hope that is not completely bred out of the plant. Steve showed me that exact picture haha. It made me buy the plant!
I also saw a picture of the mossiae from Chadwick's and I am sure to be pleased!

You don't even know how over the moon I am about having these two plants in my collection! It's truly a dream come true. I feel honored to be graced with two excellent quality Cattleya Mossiae! Soon I will be able to tell for sure which plant takes the cake for me, only the flowers will make that decision for me....

You can bet your buckle that as soon as the flowers have developed and fully opened, a few days, there will be a new thread full of pics! Thank you all for helping me find these beautiful plants! Thank you Steve for convincing me to buy the H&R plant! Buyers remorse is out the window!

Shhh Steve lol! Yes I paid 50 for the Chadwick plant in all with shipping it was 72 and the H&R plant was 50 all together, and guess what guys! They are blooming!!!! The buds split last night and today they are unfurling, both the H&R plant and the Chadwick plant! The semi alba buds(H&R) are still green and the regular color form(Chadwick's) are a very pale pink and green at the moment

Guys my dreams are coming true in this moment! Yes I moved them back outside. The plants may not be equal in size but the bud sizes are identical the one damaged bud is going to be majorly deformed I can see straight through to the column

It's a very deep cut I have no idea what happened

Ok the Chadwick plant is fully bloomed It's stunning! The H&R plant it's taking a while to expand its petals but it's on it's way..........this is stiff competition as to which flower I would favor....

The pic of the H&R plant you showed me just before I bought the plant did not excite me as much as the pic of the Chadwick plant did.. But that pic really doesn't do the H&R semi alba any justice... The reality is soo much better!!!! The lip is outrageous on both of them really. I cannot be certain until the form of the H&R semi alba finishes developing. I can't wait to show you the pictures!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
