Cattleya's in flower right now.........

All my Cattleya's are grown cold down to freezing. Here are a few that decided to flower a bit earlier than normal.

Red Berries - first flowering seedling






Dal's Buddy 'Vaso' - AM/AOC, AD/AOC - Quite a substantial plant and I probably should have repotted it before it started flowering.......








C Lavender Ice x Lc Prophesy - 4 large flowers, the plant is growing well out of the pot and really should have been repotted by now.










Sc Dal's Good One x Blc Waianae Leopard - Deformed columns and pollen caps.......disgraceful really.
But wonderful colour and I will give it another chance.

We had a talk on minicatts at the last EPOS meeting, and the speaker noted the Australians were doing some good things with minicatt breeding - several of those seem to be from those lines.

He also noted that the plants loved to climb out of the pot and generally seemed to bloom more profusely when they did so - you plants seem to back this up. His suggested remedy, where you could manage it with your growing conditions, was to grow them mounted or on rafts. His comment was that they were epiphytes and didn't particularly enjoy this potting nonsense!

But what happens when they outgrow the raft? I can see his point and he's right but in a practical sense it would be difficult to separate them later on and to manage carrying them to shows or selling pieces becomes a big job. I have 1500 plants and trying to manage them on mounts is more than I really want to think about.

Nice job! I grow a lot of my cats like yours, not the cold temps. to which you referred but growing over the edge of the pot. I seem to get the best flowers when they are growing that way.
