Epidendrum ciliare-lesser known small type
Epidendrum ciliare, since 2004 also called Coilostylis ciliaris, is a widespread species from Mexico to South America and in the Caribbean. Several local types of this species are known. In Venezuela there are large Cattleya-like plants, that prefer more humid conditions in intermediate climate. These plants flower here in December/January.
Apart from the aforementioned there exists another type in warm and drier open woodlands. These plants are considerably smaller and flower 2 months later.
I´ve grown this plant from 3 bulbs in 26 years now.
