WOW! Thanks Glen...that is an awesome cluster of blooms...even if my plant comes up with just one flower it will be worth it...
is a clone good or bad?
as compared to a keiki of the mother plant?

Bud - In my opinion a keiki is better because you are guaranteed an exact copy of the mother plant and although clones should give you the same, there have been all sorts of mutations coming out of the labs. Phal Golden Peoker is a prime example. There are plenty more.

As ever, I am always endebted to your wealth of knowledge, Glen...
My instincts are right : a keiki is better.
I am scared that my clone will mutate and wont have the same flowers as that picture you linked.
I have a plant that was crossed from the same species but different variation of color and has mutated and lost the main characteristics of the parent plant and became a totally different shape, color and form.

Well fortunately you are in luck, so far none of the two cultivars that Fred Clarke has had cloned have shown any signs of mutations. So far they have all bloomed out true to the mother plant.
And about the number of flowers in the picture, Fredclarkeara is a combination of 3 genera, Catasetum, Mormodes and Clowesia. The Clowesia parent not only increases the flower count in its progeny but also increases how long the flowers last. Most Catasetums last somewhere around a week, Clowesia, Clowesetum and Fredclarkeara flowers can last a month or more.

It's on the left hand side of our display at floor level.
Are you going to be at Judging tomorrow night at the Show? I'm coming over to clerk and Bill Thoms tells me that he is bringing the Bulb that he named after me to be judged. I actually get to see it in real life.
Can't wait.
