Cattleya amethystoglossa
Hi,
I waited for a long time this blooms: bought this plant more than three years ago as a young Cattleya schilleriana and now it comes out to be a Cattleya amethystoglossa...
the baby "schilleriana"

Now I've got two problems:
- find extra room for a larger plant
- buy a real schilleriana to put the orphan tag in .
Bye

Nice amethystoglossa! Too bad its not what you originally wanted though. I can imagine your confusion as your 'schilleriana' kept getting larger and larger over the years!! lol

How big are the growths? I love this species and repotted mine today. But I am guessing mines a long way from flowering. Your colours are stunning.
I grow mine cold and it grows well.

Thanks for your replies...
- Isurus79: you hit home indeed!!!
- Merytt: high light levels, winter temperatures min 12-max 22, summer temp. min 20- max 30/32; it's mounted on a cork slab put inside a basket with coarse bark; watering, if temperature permits, when media is dry.
- Bolero: the flowered psedobulb is 22 cm (8 1/2 inches) tall and leaves size is 15 cm (6 inches) each.... Actually it's still a baby amethystoglossa.

What beautiful plant! It's too bad that you didn't get what you wanted, but you could have had worse surprises!
I love your way of thinking, of course you shouldn't leave that poor label orphaned!
