I have seen this plant in person and it is a SPECTACULAR red. I have yet to see a photo of it doing justice to the color... anyone that likes red cattleyas should have a couple of these....
My experience is that any Lc, which is 1/2 L. anceps, can tolerate full sun in NJ (= z= +/-40 deg lat N). I put my anceps and 1/2 anceps outside in late April, ideally on first of 2 overcast days, on a table in an open field (no shade cloth). A few get a little sunburn, but if you water & fertilize enough, you get terrific growth (and blooms).

The flowers are a luscious, velvety red.
I exhibited it at the Mid-Atlantic judging center where it got the Award of Merit.
It subsequently got best orchid at the Philadelphia Flower Show.
It’s easy to grow, but as others have mentioned, needs lots of light.
