Default Pearly Cattleya amethystoglossa

Cattleya amethystoglossa is starting to flower now ! I really love this species. I have a few adult plants and several seedlings of different ages, including one of the famous ‘aurea’. I don’t really know why it took me so long to build up a collection of this species, but now I am fixing this!!! This particular one is still a young plant that flowered for the first time last year and is a favorite because of its ‘pearly’, almost white background, which is very distinct from the characteristic lavender in the type (look at the third flower, the type, for comparison). This can be a tall plant, as tall as Cattleya guttata, of which it was once considered to be a rose variety.

Those are beyond beautiful, Rosim. I only hope my amethystoglossa produces flowers that pretty next spring when it hopefully flowers--I say "hopefully" because it finally produced its first sheath on this year's growth! Congratulations to you on your wonderful flowers!

Gorgeous! They're both excellent.

I cannot get mine to bloom....it's going to be homeless soon.

A homeless C. amethystoglossa?! Care to make a trade for something? I have four amethystoglossas, two seedlings, one "juvenile" and the one adult that's going to torture me over the next six months while it rests before sending up a flower spike next spring. I would definitely be interested in making an exchange to add another to my collection. You can contact me off-list if you're really getting tired of your plant: stephenmweaver@yahoo.com
