That's the best cattleya trianae I've ever seen. You should definately keep that one.

Gorgeous. How about a cross with L. alaori to meet your objective of a smaller plant and flower size? A photo of one was recently posted. With some good luck, maybe it would produce a seedling with all the traits you want.

Sounds interesting, I adore alaori, I will have to do my homework on it's genes to find out which are dominant.

I would love to see that crossed with C, eldorado var flamea. I know it wouldn't meet your objective, but with the free growing eldorado, that would be a sight to behold.

This plant got an AM/AOS (81 pts) in 1987; your blooming looks better than the awards photo. It was apparently previously (don't know when) awarded a FCC/RHS. Do you know if your plant is a mericlone?

msaar - Thanks for the compliment, I know first hand that the plant was seed grown.

got ants? - I agree that would be some pairing.

Looking at the thread title, I realized that I caused some confusion. The plant in my picture is Cattleya trianae var mooreana not Cattleya trianae 'Mooreana' AM/AOS. My plant is a seed grown plant that has never been shown.

Any idea if it might be a descendant of 'Mooreana' AM/AOS?

From what I understand after the original C. trianae 'Mooreana' was awarded an FCC/RHS in the early 1900's, all the following flared petaled trianae were refered to as var mooreana, given that I would guess that they are not connected in any way.
