I have Cattleya, (Potinara actually) Samantha Duncan. It had a spike with two buds. The first bud opened very nicely but second even though it looked developed and big never fully opened.
Now I am trying to figure out what went wrong. Did it need more humidity? What are your ideas?
Thanks!
Humidity is probably the reason if nothing happened to the bud. (fell over, pests etc)
I am currently having a humidity issue with a 1st bud seeding. I have moved the plant to increase the humidity to it. I sure hope it works, I've been waiting 5 years for this bloom. Drat this dry weather

I had a suspicion when I saw the bud "stuck" half opened and I started misting leaves and flower but... perhaps too late
Mistking
Looking for a misting system? Look no further. Automated misting systems from MistKing are used by multitude of plant enthusiasts and are perfect for Orchids. Systems feature run dry pumps, ZipDrip valve, adjustable black nozzles, per second control! Automatically mist one growing shelf or a greenhouse full of Orchids.
Buds failing to open or bud blast, which I think means buds turning yellow before they mature, can happen to any grower no matter how much experience they have. There can be many causes so it's usually impossible to figure out what went wrong. I find that the best bet is to give the orchid the best care you can in the environment you have and some of them will reward you, others won't. Some specific plants seem to be more prone to bud problems than others. Good luck.
@Zoi2 - Good luck with your seedling! I hope that despite the weather the bud will pull though
@tucker85 - thank you for your replay. It didn't look like a bud blast. It looked mature and never got yellow, it wilted and dried up at the same time when the fully opened flower did. Hopefully I will have more luck/humidity at a next blooming.
