Default White Cattleya intermedia

Cattleya intermedia alba catches the attention, so beautiful it is. There are two very distinct ecotypes in this species: the tall plants (15" or more) that come from the State of São Paulo (where I am) and the small plants that come from the States of Santa Catarina and Rio Grande do Sul. The best intermedias are the small ones, barely higher than 7-8", or so. The tall ones that come from my State seem to be genetically very stable being very difficult to find any variations from the type. They also have poor form. Almost all varieties of value were found among the south, small ecotype. They are in flower in the habitat now and I am planning a photographic trip to see them .

Outstanding
I love the pure (close to pure) whites - especially when they are crystalline. It reminds me of Sue's skinnerii ( if I remember correctly ) - as white as snow! without all that cold .. brrrr ...

Superb Blooms! I really love the crystalline white with the soft green tips, so striking!

Looks like you are using pumice media?

How tall is this particular plant?

Great photos; I love it when the specs are ON the photo. Do you do that in Adobe Photoshop or some such?

Dorothy, crystalline really is the word for skinneri alba! The flowers seem to give off sparks in the sun!

Gwen, what you see is a thin layer of shredded-rock (similar to ballast) on top of the medium. The medium itself is a mix - 50% coconut fiber, 30% shredded pinecone, 20% charcoal nuggets. I use mainly this and some variations on it as general growing medium.

No Photoshop or similar expensive software is needed to this task, Gwen. To add specs Microsoft Paint is enough and that's what I use.
