That is an absolutely beautiful cattleya!!! and great photo too! I'm out of room, but I think I need to make space for one of these... I have been looking into purchasing a white cattleya lately....

Wow, so gorgeous. Sometimes I'm not such a fan of whites but this one is so stunning.

There is another close relative of these classics. Bob Betts was crossed back onto Bow Bells and this was named Jose Marti in 1959. Obviously this is a very similar flower and I have one blooming right now. Jose Marti is a bit more vertical growing than Bob Betts.

Because record keeping in orchid breeding is never easy, the same Bob Betts x Bow Bells cross was also registered again in 1990 as Mothers Favourite. Some times this cross is listed as Jose Marti 'Mothers Favourite' although this would not be correct. The first registration of a cross is the one that is supposed to end up being the correct one so this should just be Cattleya Jose Marti.

C. Jose Marti is available by some orchid establishments so it widens the possibility of getting one of the great, classic white Cattleyas.

I just received a C. Jose Marti 'Mother's Favorite' from Hausermann's. A huge plant in a 10" pot with four spikes. Anxiously awaiting the blooms.

My plant was originally a seedling from Hauserman's as well. Just forget the 'Mother's Favorite' part of the name and you are good to go. The fragrance is mild but nice. The flowers are very large and pretty long lasting. Bow Bells was obviously a great plant for breeding but it must be pretty rare, if it even exists any more. A lot of mossiae in these plants.
