Usual for catts to flower 2x per year ? Male
Default Usual for catts to flower 2x per year ?

I have a noid that flowered in Feb of this year ( 2 stems ) and that is currently developing buds in a sheath. There are 3 other sheaths, but they are too young to tell if any buds are present. The only thing I did different regarding culture is that all my catts spent the summer outdoors. Is this catt reverting back to its true flowering season ? Is this typical ?

Some will bloom a lot, some will produce sheaths and then wait, others will produce sheaths then flower then others do their best to confound you in every way.

Some hybrids can bloom on any new growth when it matures. I have one Catt alliance intergeneric hybrid that is now blooming for the third time this year, and has maturing new growth with a sheath - and this is a relatively young plant - only bloomed for the first time a year ago. Enjoy!

The only way to anticipate when an orchid will bloom is to keep a record of when it blooms. Next year you'll have a pretty good idea what to expect. Some cattleyas bloom twice a year and some once a year.

I keep a record of my orchids flowering habits. (as long as you haven't got 7000 orchids)
