Is there a relatively easy way to tell which season a cattleya flowers ? Just by looking at it ? Do catt hybrids flower by season ? blc, clc etc.

No, you can't tell when a cattleya will bloom by looking at it. I keep a record of when my orchids bloom so I can anticipate when they'll bloom the next year.

The breeding stock wont always give you a clue either. Makes it kinda exciting though.

Tell me about it. I have C. Quadricolor that started two sheaths last spring, only to stop in the summer. Then it put out a third, end of august. It stopped in mid october, and the first two started growing again.

Its new to me so I don't know when they will bloom, but i have a feeling the change of hemispheres last May, may gotten it confused... lol

Species plants are usually more reliable than hybrids when predicting the blooming times but certainly will get confused with a change in hemispheres.

Hopefully it can get together and put some blooms out this winter and stay on schedule

I have two C. quads I'm watching now and at least one of them should bloom this winter. I love this species!
However, they will have no excuse if they disappoint me as they both have been in this hemisphere for quite some time...

My C. percivaliana is a mature plant with one small sheath that just seems to be sitting there. It is supposed to be a reliable bloomer for Christmas! I can't see it happening-maybe Valentine's Day or Easter??

C. percivaliana will bloom anywhere from December to February in the Northern Hemisphere.
I hope your sheath kicks in soon

What you have to realise is that they won't bloom if they think you are looking at them!

Shove them back is a corner and ignore them and don't make eye contact. It works with my plants.
