Cattleya trianae var. orlata 'Dan'
This is my last trianae still in flower this year! For me, this species is one of the most beautiful in the genus and is in the background of so many hybrids. Variety orlata has the color of the central lobe of the lip also covering the edges of the lateral lobes making the whole effect very beautiful. Hope you like it too!

Rosim,
I've seen the term "var. orlata" used with various cattleyas; does it refer to the color on the lip for different species?
thanks

That's gorgeous, Rosim!
I was just thinking the same question as Phantasm...I have C intermedia var orlata which is just a seedling so I have no idea what to expect. Will the ""orlata" part of it make it look anything like yours?

Susanne, Phantasm
Orlata applies to the cases where the color of the central lobe of the lip also covers (with no interruption) the frontal borders of the lateral lobes, provided the type of the species doesn't have those borders colored. "Orlata" derives from the Portuguese word "orla" which can freely translated as edge, border. In our case, the purple borders of the lateral lobes of the lip (in C. trianae type they don't have the same color of the lip).
The first photo illustratrates it.
Suzanne, the second photo is of Cat. intermedia var. orlata 'Coroa Imperial' and that's what you can expect from an orlata variety in intermedia. By the way, this plant is opening buds these days. I'll post it in time.
