realy loving this one mounted

My Cattlyea intermedia mounted on a clear coated pine knot is making tremendous progress and has decided to bloom this season.

I did add just a bit of spagh to it this year when I brought it inside and wow it responded realy well to that.It has 3 new leads growing at the top and the lower section I cut loose last spring has several small leads coming along and is getting fuller and leads are getting bigger each time.

That is well mounted and quite a large specimen. I cant wait to see the blooms.

You were wise to mount that bifolate cattleya. My experience is that bifolates hate being repotted and often fail to do anything for a period of time after repotting. Since you mounted the orchid, it can grow undisturbed. Good job.

Hey, I live in Missouri too! Well, I dare not mount an orchid here yet. I'm afraid it may get too dry. It seems possible by looking at your intermedia!

Way more than possible ,but in summer I have a 12 volt pump on a deer feeder timer that mists them for 30 seconds every 2 hours during daylight hours ...built the plumbing out of pvc with simple 180 degree misting nozzels from a drip irrigation selection at the nursery ....

It does but I did loose several buds because I moved it in after it had started and it was cool outside already ..the temp difference and moving it while buds were too small caused a fair amount of them to drop...

It is its first time to bloom also started from cuttings last summer and lol it is growing s/h just like the chids

I like the way this looks, and I live in an area with a lot of spruce and pine. I've never tried mounting on either wood because of the resin content. What kind of lacker did you use and how many coats? Have you made it waterproof, and will it stay that way?

Looks good! I really like the pics of the s/h stuff in the background. It looks like you have some Phals in s/h (2nd pic) in a Costco pretzels container?? I will definitely be doing something like that in the future!! Great idea!!

It was sprayed with clear coat polyurethane years ago when I first got it ....several coats the back side is still natural and after a year unaffected by soaking or misting at all ....the pine knot was something my uncle picked up on Mout Ranier when he lived in Washington and gave to me so it sat on a book case for 20 years or more and when I was given this start by a friend and advised it would do well mounted decided to use it
