Rhyncattleanthe (Potinara) Michael Edward Boersma 'Carmela'
Rhyncattleanthe, originally Potinara, this one is among the first two orchids I bought (as a Lowe's baggie), so there's a connection there.
When I bought it in 2009, it was still a very small seedling, and it grew super fast and is blooming now! The other one I bought (Lc. Drumbeat) remains a seedling... This is actually the second sheath it throws but the first bloom for me. The flower size is much smaller than it supposes to be (3.5 inch in contrast to 5+ inch), so it should get better in the future.
Due to the high temperature, the yellow pigments are not fully developed, still very nice though. Now I recommend anybody who grow yellow flowers to remove the plant from high temperature environment while the buds are developing, it should get more intense color this way. Regardless, it is still quite nice a clear yellow flower. It is slightly deformed while developing, but overall it remained in good shape.
The texture of the petals and sepals are sparkling and the lip very velvety and intense yellow. My wife just loves it and insisted that more yellow may not be better anyways...This one is supposed to be a fragrant flower, but I did not smell anything. Maybe it is just too young to produce fragrance. Too many words...Here's the shots.

I agree. Thanks for the comment, Bud. It feels really different when your first orchids bloomed.

Thanks Tucker All my orchids are grown in S/H so I can't take much credit for being a good grower...The humidity level in my grow room is constantly between 20-30%, which seems tolerable for most of my plants...

Thanks Bud! I have to admit it survived my abuse during the first couple of months I tried to grow orchids (in all imaginable ways, including hanging inside a closed fish tank mounted with automatic water spraying system! ) I finally settled down on S/H which seemed to work the best with minimal effort. It became so easy that I almost forgot how difficult it was in the beginning. So I'd rather attribute the credit to Ray...But thanks for the compliment, made me feel prouder than Obama
