My Catt bloomed
well finally I got a catt to bloom from a sheath so its not an urban myth afterall
the plant is an Lc. Mary Elizabeth Bohn`Royal Flare'.
kind of disappointed the flowers werent bigger but I had to be happy with 4 nice looking healthy blooms after all I been thru this summer...
I bloomed the buds out under fluorescents and the color is really clean and no fading on the dark lip.
heh and I sneaked you a peek at a few others I have working that are 1st timers for me too
Thanks You

They well formed. How close are the photo's colors to the true colors? Great job!

Yeah, I don't really know where the urban myth about sheaths comes from, as in reality they are an indicator of coming blooms in the future. Only in one or two instances have I heard of no bloom sheaths, and in reality, it was probably that the buds simply died, not that there wasn't any buds. If you really don't like sheaths though, don't get a Guarianthe skinneri! I just bought one today at my OS meeting, and the person visiting from out of town that was selling the plants said that skinneri have a sheath that is formed before the leaves even open, and then come spring, a second, smaller sheath forms inside the first, and then you get buds in the later spring. Yay for me though, the one I bought has two almost mature leads with sheaths, and it looks like I am going to get one or two new growths, so I might have a LOT of blooms come spring!

thanks you
And the color is as accurate as a cell phone pic can be. The flower is very crystalline and just glows.Could have been named "Glowria" . Its been a treat. This plant could have waited another week so it could be judged by the AOS team at the Oct society meeting. I dont think they gonna last 2 weeks, but we going to baby them anyway like they are

Mabuhay!
I would definitely want that orchid in my collection. I love cattleyas. Its my first time to hear about the "sheaths". Sometimes my cattleya doesn't exhibit one and then later on you'll just see flowerbuds coming out.
congrats.
