Like a watched pot that never boils
I was "watching" about seven sheaths in May/June and every single one of them bloomed out while I was away on vacation
Luckily my neighbor sent me some pics over her phone and the blooms lasted until I got back.
My advice then would be ignore it for a good month....and we all know how easy that is

That is the glories of having many plants! when I only had a couple of 'chids, I was able to inspect them EVERY day, so I always new is something was changing. Now, seeing that I have about 45, stuff can happen without me seeing, such as my tetraspis 'C#1' popping buds out from underneath the bract without me seeing them peeking out. I hope that one day I will have enough that a 'chid will be able to bloom without me knowing until it actually opens!

D, MY pot boils when I watch it !!! I WAS exaggerating if you couldn't tell !!! I don't worry about it I just notice it frequently and my Cattleya bash (may the force forgive me !) was just a touch of my sarcastic, self depreciating sense of humor !!! But you knew that, right ?!?!?!?!!!
P.S. Are you coming to the NCOS show/sale ??? Starts next Saturday the 8th !

Laelia liliputana
Then there is what is known as a "blind" sheath. No blooms. Then there are what I would call a double sheath. One pops out and then another forms inside it and then (maybe) you get buds. So, don't get your hopes up too high, this may just be a rehearsal for the real thing next time. One thing I do is feel the base of the sheath (carefully). If there are incipient buds you can feel them starting to grow. Patience, patience.

Thank you Beverly and ALL !!! I KNOW all about blind sheaths and dried up then bloom sheaths and, matter of fact, there isn't too much I haven't seen about sheaths. I have dwindled down over the years to only 10 left in the Catt alliance but I work with my mentor who has approx 3000 orchids and most are Catts or Cyms !!! I've worked with him for 5 years now and guarantee that there aren't too many surprises left in the Catt world !
GEEZ !!! I indulged in a spot of my style humor and I'm never going to hear the end of SERIOUS replies to it !!!
