the one I smelled did not smell like cloves to me, nor was it a particularly pleasant smell. so despite really liking it's appearance, I elected not to get it.

I understand, Scott. Interesting how differently our noses pick out what we like and what the various scents remind us of. The majority of orchid growers I've talked to have sworn that the smell of Onc. Sharry Baby is wonderful ("like chocolate" is the most common reference). But to me its flowers don't smell all that great (reminds me of really cheap perfume from the 1970's).

That Catt is beautiful. You said that Hauserman had it right. I must go check it out and see what calls my name.

I had the pleasure of seeing one of these up close on Monday. My friend Linda (catlady here on OB) brought hers in to our meeting and I must say...WOW!!!
It is stunning and the fragrance of cloves was wonderful!

I also like Hauserman's flowers. They seem to have a nice variety. However have any of you had your plants tested that you got from them for viris . I have sent plants back to them to be replaced that I found were virised and recently had my entire > 200 plant cattleya collection tested of which many were from Hausermans and found that about 60% were infected which I destroyed.
Just wondering if anyone else has had any problems with them?.

I have 4 from them I have had for maybe 3 months. So far they seem to be fine all have new growths on them and i see no problems.

Mine did not show any signs of viris until I put them outside for the summer. I guess they were stressed out a bit and started showing streaks. I had them tested and several were positive so I did all my cats. I sent in samples to Critter Creek Labs and got the bad news the next week. This prompted me to test almost my entire collection whereas I destroyed around 60% of my collection.
I am not saying Hausermans is bad but I think they do not check their product for virus especially on their older crosses that they divide.
I don't know if you have ever been there but the place is huge. I have walked down some of their Catt. Benches and have seen virus color break in the blooms.
This indicated to me that either they don't care or don't know what to look for.
