Another one of my Enc tampensis crosses, Catyclia Lemon Delight (C intermedia X Enc tampensis) finally open, it seemed like it was in bud for ever. I am almost obsessed with tampensis crosses.

Looks like Encyclia's upright bifoliate growth rather than lateral leaves. Probably pretty vigorous too. Nice.

This is a remake of the original 1966 cross, the C intermedia used was var amethystina and the tampensis was pollen from normal variety wild plant.

The growth habit is that of the cattleya parent in that it has a rhizome that has spaces between the bulbs. The bulbs themselves are rather short and thin (a little thinner than a # 2 pencil) from rhizome to leaf the bulb is approx 3 1/2 inches with a single 3 1/2 inch long leaf.

I wouldn't call it very vigorous.

I would like to know why you thought it was an alba intermedia and a semi-alba tampensis, just curious.

Wow! That is a nice bloom....I hear those type of orchids can be very tenacious and sturdy. You can put it outside on a planter and it will just become a jungle...I envy Florida weather...you can just put those orchids out and the humidity in the atmosphere takes care of it...I have almost a month before frost comes and I need to put all my plants indoors...grrrr

Bud - Both locations have their pluses and minuses. You have to admit that there is nothing more beautiful than an Upstate New York fall when the colors are at their peak. Or the electric atmoshere of Christmas time in the City. See, you've done to me again, made me all types of homesick, not fair!!!

Cody - It's a small division that I got from a friend last year and this is the first time it has blomed for me.
