Bent, mis shaped leaves on Catts Male
Default Bent, mis shaped leaves on Catts

I have several cattleyas that display bent, twisted leaves that seem unhealthy and I'm concerned. Anyone know what can cause this? These plants were purchased like this but while in bloom it didn't seem as important.
Thanks,
Tony

Looks to me like they have been grown too dry. Have you checked the roots, or repotted them lately? Humidity could be low to. It might be a good idea to put them in a cooler and shadier place for a while, and keep them a bit wetter than usual. Good luck.

they look fine....sometimes it just happens that they grow out of the young psuedobulbs with a bend to them....they still serve the plant well, catts arent the most lovely of plants anyway, you have to just get used to em....it doesnt affect the bloom, and that is what we strive for....if it bothers you, prune them off as the plant grows, just dont prune them while the plant needs them for nourishment....

The roots on both of these plants seem uncommonly vigourous and plentiful. I was just concerned about a possible viral thing going on. They both came from greenhouse culture even farther south than here, so I doubt dryness was a factor. Thanks anyway, Kim, but I live in Central FL, if it were any 'wetter' here, they'd be underwater
Cheers,
Tony
