Cattleya dowiana var. Rosita MC?
Has anyone seen this orchid in the flesh? Cattleya dowiana var. Rosita MC. There's one for sale in Europe for EUR 380 and was wondering it if was worth getting for that price - I know it's a personal thing but I can't find many pics of this one on line.

Considering that is about $500-600, I would say no, its not worth it. You can buy rositas from here in the States for a fraction of that price, even if you included the needed permits for shipping to the other side of the pond.

The only place I have seen them is Orchids Limited Orchid of the Week Library: Cattleya dowiana var. Rosita
$185.00-250.00 USD
Next time they are in Canada, I am ordering one! Good luck Kelo on your quest.

Exotic Orchids of Maui had Rosita seedlings and plants for less than $20, though I do not see them on their price list anymore. You can also get 2" seedlings from H&R Nurseries for $12. Go here: http://hrnurseries.com/downloads/Ret...0812.pdfscroll down to "Seed Propagated Species" and continue scrolling down until you see a plant that says "Cattleya dowiana x self. 6" apricot flowers." These Catts are of dowiana parents and bloom true. Here is a pic of a plant I flowered from these parents a few years ago:

Hi Steve, thanks for the tip. I purchased 2 of these this year. Code 20957. I had no idea that they were rosita variety - suppose the description could be a tip off!. Hope they are wonderful! They arrived in excellent condition and are establishing nicely. New growths showing.

For a long time C. dowiana was my nemesis. Couldn't grow them, they would die slowly adding to my agony! Now I have seedlings, flowering size selfings, v. aurea and now v. rosita! Happy times!

Dave, what was the secret? I have heard they are very unforgiving and very difficult to grow well. I have shied away from them for that reason. They are one of the few orchids I would buy (as yearlings). I just love that lip. Have you looked at Santa Barbara Orchid Estates to see if they have any? I saw some in bloom a few years back and just stood there for the longest time staring at how beautiful they were.
