Sorry Kelo, we hijacked the thread a bit.
James, a few things changed to make C. dowiana more happy in my care.
Created a better growing environment. Better light, humidity, temperature and air movement.
All my dowiana are potted in semi hydro so while they get regular watering, the roots have tons of air around them.
When I see that they are resting after growth I try to water much less.
They are growing much warmer. 80-84°F (26-29°C) day and min 10°F drop at night.
I have them at the back of the bench where they don't get the highest intensity from my 1000W MH light.
Seems to be agreeing with them, which is good for my favorite of the cattleyas.

I saw some in bloom a few years back and just stood there for the longest time staring at how beautiful they were.

You guys in the USA are quite fortunate to have so many commercial growers. Are there any restrictions which prevent orchid purchases from one state to another? It can be a daunting challenge to get plants from the US into Canada. Many US growers no longer maintain the certification to ship accross the border.
Love to order from Clown Alley Orchids among others.
