Default $2 pot. little fortune care #15 info

hi everyone,

I killed every orchid I've raised. Except for one phal that lived for 5 years until I let my mom take care of it over one summer=(

I'm not one to give up so easily, so I gave it another shot and purchased a mini cattleya: pot. little fortune #15 out of bloom for $2. It had bloomed several times before, has plump pseudo-bulbs, and nice healthy medium green leaves. I don't see any signs of new growth, but I'm just assuming it's just resting.

I read cattleya may differ in requirements because of the different traits inherited from their parents. Can anyone provide care info that is specific to this mini cattleya?

Thanks!!!

nice find!
that's a complex intergeneric hybrid - and perhaps some one will be able to say definitively, but for myself, especially the mini-catt types - seem to do well on a bright windowsill, allow to dry inbetween waterings

gl!

Maybe someone who has OrchidWiz can look up the specifics of this hybrid for you.

Here is the correct name of your plant and it's parentage: Rhyncattleanthe Orquidacea's Little Fortune (Rhyncholaeliocattleya Chian-Tzy Huansuan X Rhyncattleanthe Twentyfour Carat). A really cute yellow flower with a red lip.

With all the name changes going on in the Cattleya alliance, your plant is no longer a Potinara. All that aside, it's cultural requirements remain the same. Bright light, warm growing conditions, copious amounts of water while in active growth, let dry between waterings, less water in the winter.

Thanks everyone!!

I subitted a question to orchid "experts" on allexperts.com, and the one who responded, citing Fred Clark, a hybridizer that specializes in minicatts and their success is based upon a careful selection of parents. He uses Cattleya luteola in creating his yellow minicats, which he says can be treated like a phal, which I found surprising.

Is it generally recommended that I proceed treating the plant like a regular cattleya, or should I start treating it like a phal??
