LOL. If sanitiser's good enough for Dr's, surgeons and we horse dentists it's good enough to put on yer chids! lol Hand sanitiser is cheap and it works a treat. Just keep your catt on the dry side an it will do just fine. Can you give your neighbour my address to send me her unwanted chids, please? lol

It looks to me like you're trying to grow it using the s/h method. That's fine and dandy, but isn't that a net pot?

I use a medium that has minimal organic material, but it has some. I also use clay pots. Mostly the old ones with deep slots and terracotta, not the new cement pots with a stingy hole.

For what it's worth, I would suggest at least adding some charcoal, if not some chc, or pine bark, but sparsely.

I grow catts in two ways----> in clay pots, or on mounts (wood).

I was going to put it in s/h, but discovered root rot. I potted her up in hydroton and set her up outside under a tree.

I really think rain has magical orchid growing powers. I went to check on her yesterday because all the rain we've been having had me worried, and I was pleasantly surprised
