I will give this a try....
Sanderiana speaks to a variety of the species like other terms such as 'rubra' 'semi-alba' 'amoena' 'striata'
Usually, these terms describe a color pattern or variation in the petals and or lip.
A sanderiana variety of vanda species is evident by the speckling of the lower petals.
I tried to look up a specific written description of what var. sanderiana means but I could not find one.
I'm sure a commercial cattleya grower would just say "O, it means..."
I do know that C. schilleriana var. sanderiana is considered to be a rare form of this cattleya species and I would expect some speckling pattern since this is what you see in a different species when it is also given this varietal name.
The next time I am in the company of a commercial cattleya grower, however, I will ask.
