Cat. leopoldii Male
Default Cat. leopoldii

This may be one of the tallest cattleya species in the world.
I got this plant which was imported from H&R orchids seven years ago. It took about 2 years to become mature plant. Once when it matured, the plant blooms every year. Only one new growth appears each year in mid-spring and when it grows bigger, the sheath appear and there are flower spike in it.
There are only 2 flowers this year due to my repotting it this spring.

About 2 feet tall. Some websites say that the species can be 1 meter tall.

That is beautiful! Great photograph too! That first picture would make a fantastic entry in the Calendar Contest.

Wow! I second that nomination! It must be nice having such a great looking specimen plant. Congrats and thanks for sharing!
