Default Pot. Memoria Irene Feil

I am just sooooo excited.

I got a letter from Nottingham, UK today. Do any of you know what happens in Nottingham that is significant to orchid growers?

Well have a look see below.

First a little history that these three threads will catch you up on if you are not familiar (these are on a different forum because that is where I was when this all happened. They are nice people and don't bite - very hard anyway!):

OrchidTalk Orchid Forums - Grow Orchids!

Slc Pink Doll x Pot Odoms Sweetheart - OrchidTalk Orchid Forums - Grow Orchids!

Maybe you are getting the idea now? Well, the RHS Orchid Registrar lives in Nottingham and I got a letter from her today which I have reproduced for you below.

I think I fixed the links.

The short story is I bought some orchids. Slc Pink Doll x Pot Odom's Sweetheart was one of them. It was in bud. A few days later my mom had a massive stroke and passed away on a Sunday. We got home the next day and discovered the flower had opened on that day.

I contacted the maker of the cross and he gave me permission to name it after my mother in her memory.

I think I fixed the links so you can read the long version.

I forgot to mention that the clonal name for this plant will be 'Piper' in honor of an online friend that helped me through several things including my mother's passing. She did a special set of bag pipe songs in her honor on the day of her service. We were in CA and she was in Mass. but the act was quite appreciated.

Hi Steven...
I'm so sorry to hear of your mom's passing...

what a lovely way to memorialize such an important person in your life. Your orchid is beautiful and I know it brings you much pleasure

The bagpipes in your mom's honor by your friend was a lovely thing for her to do

Oh my gosh Steven I can't believe it finally happened for you...congrats to you. I am very happy for you. What a great honor, you have made your mom proud. Once again, I am so happy for you...

When I find Blc. Norman's Bay 'Lows' I will definitely catch up with you noting the same in my mother-in-laws honor.

A very beautiful story and a wonderful thing you have done to honor your mother. Bittersweet!
A big to the long distant friend with a heart of gold and a special shared gift
I wish we knew more background on some of the names attached to orchids as all are a story of their own with a significance. Not only would it bring us closer together as orchid growers and lovers but as people too
Cheryl - do tell of your story of your mother-in-law and Blc. Norman's Bay 'Lows' Please
