Sunset Valley Orchids delivery
I just had an email from Sam Tsui that my catt order has been posted this morning so I'm hoping I'll have my order by Tuesday but I'm not going to hold my breath.

They have a lot of nice crosses of their own. Lots of smaller catts and I know Crystal Star Orchids in Canada here imports quite a few from them.

There are so few orchid companies over here compared to North America that I'm only too glad to get what I can. I'll be having some more in the next few months.

Somehow I would have though Europe would have so many orchid places since that's where so many of the collectors were in the days of old! Canada is likely like you then-limited. And we have fairly strict import laws too.
I've ordered 3 of the SVO catts thru Chrystal Star in Canada. Hopefully our order will be arriving soon, but its unclear if he has to order them from Sunset Valley still or if he already had them. Oh well, surprises can be fun, so long as they are good ones
I hope you are happy with yours.

Thank you, silken. I hope they turn out to be beautiful like the pics of their parents. at least you wont need to pay for phyto certs - or do you? You're lucky you don't need to have a minimum order like we do. One minimum order would fill all of my kitchen and the living room lol.

Kelo, have you considered joining an orchid society? We do need a minimum from some of the places but usually as a society, it isn't so bad. And then the cost of the phyto certs is spread over a larger purchase. With Crystal Star, he builds those costs into the final cost that we pay, but we are technically dealing with a Canadian company and he does the importing himself. I suppose all orchid places build in their import costs anyways tho. But you can ship across borders in the UK without any phyto certs can't you? We can't do that when importing from the U.S. unfortunately.

I thought that because you are part of North America you wouldn't need certs. In the EEC/Europe we can have plants cross all of the borders with no problems at all with regards to documents and certs. There is a list of countries in Europe that are allowed to do this. I've had catts come in from Greece, France, Germany etc and all I have to pay for is the plants and the postage.

Nope, we need Phyto Sanitary cert. and CITES to bring in from the U.S. So as an individual, it is very prohibitive to order plants. That benefit alone is worth joining a society for, never mind the other good things that go with a membership.
