Schomburgkia thomsoniana in bloom
Ok, I know I posted over a month ago about my spiking schom...and that the spike was getting too long and going to hit my grow light....got some good advice, thanks. I was unable to find that thread so I will for now start another to show off a few of the blooms so far. Thanks for looking.

Nice work. Can I get some comments on how you're growing it? I've got my eye on one, and I'm thinking about buying it, so any help would be great! Thanks!

Crazy bright light and heat. Is on the top shelf with a large grow light moving directly above it. I grow in a basket with bark mixture (charcoal, perlite, coco husk & bark) and water once to twice a week depending. The roots go all over the place and it is a pretty healthy plant, I would consider easy to grow so far. It is in my grow room, so humidity ranges from 50 -80% depending. Hope this helps....buy it & give it a try, good luck.

Hmm. Well, I had planned on putting it outside, probably mounted due to location constraints. Summer time temps here in Atlanta probably average mid-hi 90's with fairly high humidity. Given what you said, it looks like it might take well to it. How bright is your grow light? I'm just wondering if it can take direct sunlight for long periods or if I should add a bit of shade cloth. Thanks for the advice!

Pretty sure that I had this one outside last year in my arbor on an outside shelf (lots of sun). Our summer temps are very close to yours from the sounds of things. I have a moving 400 PSI (not sure if that is how you say it) light, also gets a bit of natural sunlight through my sunroom windows and sun tunnels. I would suggest it could probably handle a fair amount of direct sunlight. It is a large plant though and it looks like it grows 4 to 5 pseud. bulbs a year so if your space is limited you will be dividing quite frequently I think.

Space on racks is what's limiting, I can mount a piece of plyboard if I really wanted to outside (man that would be a big orchid). Ok cool, thanks for the posts, I'll be getting this one for sure now.

Great stuff! I love Schomburgkia!
So tell us....how tall is the plant....how tall is the spike.....how big is the plant (love to see the whole plant).
Is it growing under a 400 W High Pressure Sodium light or Metal Halide?
Sorry, so many questions....did I say I love it!

Yes Dave, High Pressure Sodium 400 w....and it moves back and forth along 1 wall of my sunroom, works really well for my set up.
The spike is 39 inches tall, the plant is 15 inches tall and approx 20 inches wide. I will attach a picture that includes most of the plant, I was having some photography issues with this one. 11 or 12 pseud. bulbs.
Thanks for your compliments.

Love it!! not to highjack the thread,...but I have my schombs in direct sunlight. I grow them in LECA in clay pots (except for the Myrmecophila albopururea, which is mounted on tree fern). They love BRIGHT LIGHT.
