Wow I am in heaven! I just bought my first C. violacea seedling and I am hoping it will do ok for me. I typically take my temps down to around 59 during the winter, I know it is a warm grower but I have been told and read that in some areas where they naturally grow that sometimes the temps are a little cooler during the winter then what they are typically grown at. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that I won't kill it!

59 degrees in Idaho in winter is necessary, I guess. You need to keep your heating bill at a reasonable level.
Your plant may not grow vigorously in winter, but it should be ok. Give it as much light as you can during that period.

I've acquired a couple of warmer growing orchids in the last year and they are going to have to get by in the greenhouse too over winter. What I think I will do is use a heat mat or set up one little micro climate that will be warmer.

Here's a photo of another bloom. Some of these plants have bloomed a total of three times since this March.
For anyone who's interested in the seed making process, there are also photos of pods that I made of the various color types & combinations. Some pods were made in April, others in May or June ... probably 8-10 pods of this type.
Sooo ... maybe in 4-5 years, hopefully, there will be improved generations.

Do any of your photographed plants have cultivar names, please?
Thanks,

The 3 awarded plants have their names on the photos. I only have tentative names on others

Sorry, no I will not be selling seed. Things like this don't come along very often & we will be taking them along. Some of last year's crosses are almost ready to come out of flasks, but they will be a while yet until they are large enough.

Great info on violacea culture! Saw you in Vancouver in the early spring, and the plants are doing great.
I should place my violaceas on a seedling mat, keep them watered, but not soggy. I am determined to get my plants to grow fast and bloom when the plants get more established. Just got a violacea 'Lea'

Glad to hear your plants are doing well. I gave my slide shows, in your area, just this past May. But it seems so long ago. Time goes by so fast ... I should take the glass off my clocks & use the hands as a fan.
From your post here & the other one about C walkeriana, it sounds like you like to grow cat species.I remember meeting a few people at your societies, who especially liked them. Maybe I talked with you. But your societies had me going back & forth & back & forth on the ferry so much that I forgot which town I was in. I had a nice time though. I saw some people I've known for many years & met some other very nice people for the first time.
