Default Encyclia cordigera

very fragrant when in the east window in the mornings. You have to stop and smell it if you get even close to it.

I I killed a few (all I had) encyclias not long ago by being dumb and left them on the porch in the middle of august last year..Wiped them out so seeing a bloom on a few in my home this spring really makes me happy

Some Orchids really do like your avg home temps of 65 to 75 degrees..It gets cold at 65 at night for me but I can pull a blankie over myself. I do it all for the plants

Very nice. I'm a big fan of Encyclia cordigera because of the wonderful fragrance. I have a pink one and a purple one. The purple is the most fragrant for me. The pink has only a faint fragrance.

Very nice RJSquirrel. I bought a pink one of these from Ecuagenera bare root last fall. It has sat all winter doing nothing (not dying or shrivelling either), and I am finally just seeing a new growth coming from the largest plump pseudobulb. Do you guys have any growing tips for getting it to bloom? How much sun, water etc. Thanks.

What do these smell like? I have a Encyclia that is similar and smells likes grape. It's a bagged orchid from home depot named shower of flowers.

Yes they flower from the top.

Mine receive plenty of water and a little fertilizer every week during summer / active growth. When the growth is mature I reduce watering some but not as much as some other Encyclia. During summer temperatures range from 18 at night to 20-30 during the day and in the winter 15 at night and 18-20 during the day (celcius of course). Light a lot mine is growing on a west facing window and can receive direct sun from 14:00-15:00.

Got a rosea that is throwing out 7 flowers on one stem (pictures in a couple of weeks).

In the greenhouse, this one stayed about 60-70 most winter long with about 80% sun all day ...the bulbs are quite large at over 2 inches across. Plant is about 18 -22 inches tall...and has 3 new babies

I water it when it starts to just feel like its getting dry.You don't want the media "reverse suckin" water from the plant by getting too dry. This in my opinion is what starts root rot is when the media starts to feed off the moisture of the roots and then the roots get dried out. You water it next time and its too late the roots are gone already. The bulbs should stay firm and shiny. If they start to shrivel and wrinkle at all you aren't getting enough water. The wrinkling of the bulbs will set back blooming In my humble opinion.

thanks you
