Can someone take a look at how I repotted this cattleya fighting fish.
The canes have wrinkles on them.

I realized I only answered part of your query

Wrinkles sometimes come with age -- just like the folks. Your plant does not appear stressed to me.

Your front lead or two will always be the most plump. The others -- the backbulbs -- are for water/food storage, and manufacture. They get more character.

Now, if your new leaves go limp, or the older leaves become wrinkled, and the bulb stems get very wrinkled, then we got problems.

It appears you have a nice plant there.

Got any pictures?? I don't recall that variety

Take care

no Problem there at all that I see those wrinkles are normal as the mature.
It took me a while before I learned this as well ...every one says wtch for wrinkling pbs as a sign of problems but they forget we do not know the difference between normal wrinkles due to age or wrinkles due to problems yet...

Your plant looks a bit over potted to me. Be careful when you water that your media is actually dry.

I agree with Joann, the pot looks a little too big. You can compensate for that by making sure the medium gets very dry between waterings. I assume there are drainage holes in the bottom. That would be an absolute requirement. Don't worry about the psuedobulbs in the rear being wrinkeled. The psuedobulb in the front of the lead should be fairly plump.

Howdy again

Regarding the pot size

according to the number of pbulbs, and the fact that the rightmost lead is only about an inch or so away, I think you have done just fine. Mine all look like that, and I have no trouble with them. I water twice a week, or so.

I take care of over 300 pots of catts, and, true, underpotting is much prefered to overpotting. But, this catt seems centered fine, not too close to the side, and is not up high with too much medium underneath--as well as it seems to be in a clay pot.

Now, if this plant were in an 8, 10, or 12 inch pot, I would agree. But as it appears right now, and the size of the plant placed there, I respectfully disagree that this plant as shown is overpotted.

If you were to bump the plant down, where would the leads (plural) go? There are two, one at the front, and possibly one off to the side near the rear.

So, I still think that this plant is okay as it appears.

Take care

Okay now
Everyone join in

Rex needs glasses (which is true) <sad grin>

Sii
what size pot is this? It appears to be 5 or 6 inch size, judging from the moulding, and parquets on the floor, etc.

I have assumed it was 5 or 6. And, judging by the color, that it was clay.

I guess I have hit the send button way too early before checking things out a bit better.

I use plastic, 5 to 6 inch for most everything except bowringiana and its hybrids, and some of the huge spring catts which often need 8 and 10 inchers to hold them.

Sorry I shot off too soon without re-checking better than I did.

My appologies to all

Rex

Hi Rex

The plastic pot is 5 1/2 inches wide and 4 inches tall (had to go find a ruler with inches - sorry I'm on metric

Okay, I'm getting worried now. Should I put it in a 4 inch pot? And I don't know what leads are.

Tucker - yes, the drainage holes are on the bottom.

later - okay, so I got a little paranoid and potted down into a 4 inch pot and only packed down the roots with the bark. I tend to water once a week and at times have been known to overwater. So maybe this is the best way?
