Default Cattleya aurantiaca

Won this in a NOS raffle. Smallest flowers of the Cattleya genus and not so big or "gotti" as the rest of them can be. Most northern growing Cattleya and used in breeding for the orange color. There is also an aurea form. I'm not a big fan of Cattleyas, but I like this one.

The color is lovely and I also like the waxy flowers.

They certainly are cheery little flowers aren't they? I posted mine blooming recently in the flowering forum. They last for a good month or more, which is always a plus.

BTW taxonomists have moved this from the Cattleya genus to the Guarianthe genus so these are now Guarianthe aurantiaca.

I'm in the same boat regarding most catts. But always been a big fan of this one. I also have a chocolate drop, which is a hybrid with similar flowers
