Exclamation Sunburn on my new L.Anceps

Dear friends, I bought a L.Anceps"Sandbar Ruby". It has two bulbs bare root planted in basket with large coco chips two weeks ago. In my haste I hung it at my Mothers house under a citrus tree. I thought it was placed correctly, but it received too much light and and both leaves were burned. The color of the leaves is about 50% purple and even the P.Bulbs show some burn. The tip of one leaf is brown and dry up 1 inch. Its a 30$ mistake, can you advise me how to save the DAY and this orchid.

My experience is that orchids will generally recover on their own from sunburn once they are placed in the appropriate environment. Unfortunately the parts that were damaged will remain that way. Also if a large portion of the plant is burned it can take quite a while for the plant to start growing again and there's always a chance that the damage is too extensive for the plant to recover from. All you can do is give the orchid proper care and see what happens. Good luck.

Hi,
I Burned an L. anceps leaf at the beginning of last summer. In my case the leaf had a large spot that was actually dried and whitish. The spot turned black over the next few days. I ended up cutting the leaf off because I was worried about infection, and just could not bear looking at my mistake everyday.
If your leaves are purple they may not be dead, just badly tanned. All you can really do is adjust your light levels, watch and wait. I have several 'purple' pbulbs, but it does not seem to bother the plant. Unfortunately with only two bulbs, there is not much room for loosing a leaf or two.
Best of luck,
Stephen

Leave that is purple is fine. Anthocyaan causes the purple colour and is something that the plant produces in reaction to stress. If any spot become white or brown pay attention that they don't become soft and start to rot.
