Default just a interesting little fact I found

In unifoliate cattleyas

The pseudobulb is covered with green sheathing leaves while developing. These leaves fade, dry out and turn into papery envelopes. In unifoliate Cattleya species there are 8 sheathing leaves, the ninth is the actual leaf.

LOL now I have to go count the sheathing leaves on my goldenzell.....Later

LOL my goldenzell is a hybrid but in fact the number is 8 and 9nth is the actual leaf .....lol a year ago I actually wondered about this a few times when watching in anxious anticipation for the leaf to appear ......but we have to take into account it cant be trusted if the chid is a hybrid most likely .

And lol I have not found the tidbit that gives the count for bifoliates yet.....HMMM I feel a ocd need to google for this now....
