Default Cattleya mossiae 'R.E. Patterson'

Here's an early bloom on this Cattleya mossiae. Oddly enough, it skipped blooming last spring and maintained the sheath from last year. This is the bloom from that sheath. It also has another sheath formed this past summer that I hope will still bloom this Spring.

I have read that some consider this to be a hybrid with Cattleya lueddemanniana. The scent of this and lueddemanniana are VERY different. This scent is typical of a mossiae, while Cattleya mossiae 'Willowbrook' reminds me much more of a lueddemanniana leading me to believe that it is a hybrid and this is not.

That's beautiful. I've been wanting a mossiae and they don't seem to be as easy to find as some catt. species.

Awesome blooms and great color. This one to me looks more like C. labiata than C. mossiae (but that doesn't mean that it isn't C. mossiae; just a friendly observation). Congratulations. It's a beauty.
