Default Sticky, webby substance

I have a catt noid that is struggling to do anything. Not growing well, no buds. And I have found, in the -v- between the leaves, a thick, webby substance that is sticky and hard to get out. I have dug some out and examined but didn't see any critter lurking. Any ideas?

Hi .
Without a picture it is hard to say what it is ,can you post a picture of it ?
I think I would spray it for bugs anyway, Rubbing alcohol or the brown Listerine mouth wash or a store bug spray like Bayer's Lowe's has it . This is just a guess .. If it had buds then it might be normal ..

Mealy bugs. Spider mites leave webs but they aren't really sticky. I just sray with an insecticide like Bayers any time there's a question. I do have a questyion for those with more experience than I. I have some Epidendrum "ciliare" which my dad pilfered from Panama back in the early 50's and the new growth always has a sticky film on the surface of the new leaves. Not bugs. Any ideas?
