I got this little bare root division from OBer Rodcuda in Oct. with a brown dry sheath. I was busy at the time so I just stuck it in a vase for water culture. Around the end of November, I was watering plants and noticed that brown dry sheath was growing fatter! By the first of Dec. the sheath split and there were 2 buds coming and 5-6 lovely new roots. I potted it up in s/h and put it in the south window. The buds got fatter and color started showing as banana yellow with a purple tip.
The flowers were finally open on Dec. 24, I was excited but the the cultivar is 'Orange' and they were yellow. I figured I had kept it too warm and the color washed out so I made a note to keep it cooler next year. Oh me of such little faith... a few days later the color was actually orange and its fragrant. Ten days later and it is ORANGE!
