Default Rhyncostylis Gigantea 'Red'

My Rhynco, for the first time ever, produced 3 spikes this year. Unfortunately, I accidentally knocked off one during a watering session. I was heart broken at the time, but I decided to place the broken spike in a small amount of water to see what would happen. The buds were still fairly tight, but about half of them did manage to bloom.

Here are photos of her blooms, from her remaining two attached spikes, and from the little spike that got knocked off prematurely.

Wow, love the color!! A shame about the broken spike, but accidents do happen, no matter how careful you are.

Thank you. I still feel bad about the broken spike. This plant has outdone herself this year. She's doubled in height, grown 2 keikies, and produced 3 spikes. I hope she repeats her 3 spike effort next year.

wow - that looks fabulous! Sorry about the broken spike, but at least you still had two others! It seems quite happy, so I am sure you will get many spikes in the future!

Fantastic plant and bloom. You give me hope - my Rhynco was a tiny bag baby and is growing well, but a ways from blooming. Seeing yours makes the wait easier. Mine probably won't be nearly as vibrant - it was labelled 'Peach', but hopefully it will be as prolific.

Thank you, Bob. I'm envious. Peach Rhyncos are so gorgeous they make me drool. Your's should do very well. It might bloom sooner than mine did, because I had little experience with orchids when I bought mine. Don't be alarmed if your plant drops one or two bottom leaves each season, as the new fat roots emerge. This is typical for my plant. The emerging roots grow fatter each season, eventually becoming so fat that they push off the lower leaves. For reference on what to expect some day...the latest roots on mine are bigger around than the thickest part of my little finger.

That's so beautiful. How long have you had the plant? I bought one with 'spots' from a vendor in FL first time, I cannot wait mine to get that big.
