Your question is relevant, Ramón, cause these two are pretty close indeed and subject to much confusion. There are two differences between sanguinea and rubra: sanguinea is a little redder than rubra (almost bloody-like color) and has a velvety surface not present in rubra. The thing is that these two characteristics are not distinguished by any of the modern digital cameras. If you put side by side these two flowers, most of times you can see the differences, but if you take a shot with a digital camera the resulting photo will show no differences between the two. I say most of times because, you know, the color hues perception is so variable from people to people that it is hard to get two with the same opinion on a given color hue.
In my opinion, there wouldn't be necessary to have these two separated based upon these differences. They are too subtle to have real horticultural interest... but, well...

Wow, more wonderful purpuratas. I thought before that I really liked the white with deep center, but now seeing the ones which are pink over most of the flower I love them just as much. What a wonderful species.

Thanks a lot for the explanation, Mauro! I was sure it was something I could not see in the digital photos!
