Hi

We have an island in Portugal called Madeira (means timber... yes, I know ), it actually is near Africa and as such it has a tropical climate.

Throughout history it has been very appreciated by foreign people as well and it has received a lot of Europeans from other countries. They were attracted by the tropical amenities, of course. Among those wealth people came orchids and some orchid growers (Wyld court, for example).

All to say that now you can see a lot of orchids and old hybrids being sold in the local markets, side by side with fruits. And, of course, in the backyard of almost all houses. Cymbidium, Zygopetalum, Stanhopea and Paphiopedilum insigne are the most common, but you can see a bit of everything. But to the real lover I would recommend some specialized shops that they have there.

This one was given by a friend that lives there and you can see that it resembles the old hybrids. Well, just by the name!

Nice old primary hybrid! We don't see many of the old crosses these days.

Very nice cross. So what do you all say? Should we go retro?
