Cattleya plant sizes
I enjoy the compact/small/mini Cattleya hybrids. I'd like to invest in some species Catleyas, but rarely see much in the way of plant size descriptions - lots of flower info!
Any suggestions from Cattleya owners on Cattleya species that are compact/small/mini.

Species such as aclandiae and walkeriana are relatively small, but many of the mini-hybrids tend to have sophronitis and rupicolous laelias in their backgrounds.

In addition to C. aclandiae and C. walkeriana, C. nobilior is small growing, as is C. schilleriana. You can also try Laelia pumila, L. sincorana, L. dayana and L. jongheana, all of which stay compact (and they're tolerant of wide temperature ranges too, if that's a consideration you might have). Avoid C. amethystoglossa, C. guttata and C. leopoldii, which eventually turn into skyscrapers. :-)

Cattleya luteola is also pretty small, and fairly easy to grow. Only drawback is that the flowers don't last as long as some of the other Catt species.

My favorite is C. intermedia. It stays fairly manageable, is easy to grow, and comes in a large number of varieties.

My C. Jenmanii has stayed compact and has one of the best fragrances in the Cattleya world. One of my favorites is C. percivaliana which is a little larger but not one of the super tall Catts.. It will top out around 12" I believe. It puts on quite a show.

I'll second C. jenmanii also some C. mossiae and eldorado are compact as well. C. lueddemanniana is another shorter grower.

Love all your comments as well as the plants listed. This really helps.
I started to collect the intermedia and am enjoying their small growth, but the others suggested and comments with each is a wonderful help and really has my appetite wetted for more Cattleya species variety.
Thanks!

Try Miniature Cattleyas for some mini catts I bought a couple and the plants were in good shape.
