Beallara Lunatic Fringe

This has to be my favorite name of any of my named orchids. "Lunatic Fringe"! I love it. Not bad looking either

I hope these blooms have some lasting power - the blooms on the last of my beallaras to open up only lasted about 1.5 weeks.

Very nice! We have a similar one called Jimi Hendrix and the blooms lasted for 5+ weeks!

The flowers fell off this beallara in the strangest way - I might have been the reason they dropped off a tad bit early - tell me what you think.

The first few flowers (closest to the leaves) dried up and fell off in the usual manner. Then, I think I may have over-watered one weekend and there may have been a millimeter or two of water lingering in the bottom of the pot (oops). The color in the rest of the flowers then bled out - the clearly defined purple spots that you can see in the photos above lost their definition, then spread through to the edges of the petals. Weird, right? Then, the flowers became moist and fell off. This has to be caused by the over-watering, right?

The good news is the flowers lasted for about 5-weeks this time. So even with my blunder, I was able to enjoy the blooms for a while.

Same beallara - but look how different the flowers are this year. Could it be due to my decision to grow it a bit on the cooler side? Looks like a totally different hybrid. Has anyone ever seen anything like this before? Weird, no?

Those are really different!

I've seen something similar with a Den Phal type. It was a NoID but after the first flowering (in flower when bought) the flowers have always been different. I know it's all one plant (not two in a pot) and I've even had further flowers from the same cane that was originally in flower, but they are always different to the originals.

I've no idea what causes it, but I guess it's environmental.

Well, growing cooler is supposed to bring out deeper colours in some plants. But that is extreme! I can hardly believe that's the same plant! Your latest photos are really small tho, so hard to see the detail. can you post a photo from the computer instead?

It looks delicious as a centerpiece...the colors, texture and form is delightful
