I love a lot of the mini orchids. But any of the AB's just take my breath away. I love the subtle shading of the flowers and the fragrance..........

Hi

What a magnificent orchid, very beautiful and very well grown! congratulations.

I have one also, but I don't know its clonal name.

By the way, I believe the name is Iwanagaara Appleblossom (I know that this one doesn't make more sense). Because this particular clone has an award, it is Iwanagaara Appleblossom 'Hihimanu' AM/AOS.

Actually, i'm in doubt... It has a CCM/AOS as well, should all the clones have CCM as well?

Again, it is a precious one, regardless of these details.

PS; I don't use italics, don't have the time...

A CCM (certificate of cultural merit) goes to the grower whereas the AM (award of merit, a flower quality award) goes to the plant (and all like-named clones of the grex). When you buy a mericlone (of any genus), the vendor usually identifies it as a mericlone and usually it is distinguished with a clonal or cultivar name as in your Iwan. Appleblossom 'Hihimanu'. When a plant is recognized with an AOS flower-quality award, the award becomes part of the official name of the plant; and every mericlone with the same clone or cultivar name also carries the award as part of its official name. The initials that represent the particular award are written in capital letters.
An AOS flower quality award or CBR (certificate of botanical record) or CHM (certificate of horticular merit) becomes the benchmark for subsequent showings of the plant.
BTW, some orchids use fragrance to attract their pollinators. The time of day (or night) that they turn on their perfume depends on when the particular pollinator is active.
In any case, Iwan. Appleblossom is a wonderful complement to a collection and you are growing yours beautifully!
