Cattleya mossiae 'Willowbrook'
Default Cattleya mossiae 'Willowbrook'

I was sold this plant as a Cattleya mossiae. To me it looks like a hybrid with Cattleya lueddemanniana in it because of the appearance and the scent which is very similar to my Cattleya lueddemanniana 'Arthur Chadwick'.

It has been suggested that Cattleya mossiae 'Willowbrook' is actually a hybrid with some measure of C. leuddemanniana in it. Yours looks right for 'Willowbrook' so your eye and nose aren't alone in questioning it.

A very nice plant actually, the general consensus nowadays among Cattleya fans is that this is actually the natural hybrid C. Gravesiana (mossiae x lueddemaniana)... This is also the same case as for the clon C. mossiae 'Panther Creek', which was awarded with AM/AOS (if I recall it correctly, but could have been also FCC/AOS)

Lovely thing. I bought a 'Willowbrook' too, this year. It should be blooming next year. Hope it's as nice as yours.

By the way, saying that this is not mossiae but xgravesiana (with x and little g, as it is my understanding that 'Willowbrook' was originally wild collected!), does not take value to this plant at all! Actually, itcan even make it more interesting in any collection, as this hybrid is not very common in the wild...
