I haven't grown any of the rupicolus laelias in many years, but this one really looked great. Put on a decent new growth for me and a few flowers! Growing in a clay pot with the bottom knocked out. Pot is about 3/4 full of styrofoam, topped with sphagnum moss. Growing in a warm greenhouse with other cattleya types.
I really like the lavender and gold combination (like Sc. Crystelle Smith or Fairyland), and the lip is wild.

Very well done! This is definitely on my wishlist now! What sweet little guy. How big is your plant?

The plant is about the size of a large-ish minicat or a smallish compact cat. Pseudobulb and leaf combined are about 5" tall on the growth that is blooming. My division is only 5 growths, and it looks like the largest pseudobulb/leaf combination is closer to 8" tall. Hard to say if this is because the plant was grown in lower light before I got it or if it has to be a larger and happier plant to reach its full potential (a far more likely scenario). Either way, it doesn't seem to be terribly difficult. One note - I've tried to grow rupicolous laelias under lights and was never successful. I did OK with the hadrolaelia group (pumila, praestans, dayana, sincorana) but the rupicolous always got smaller and smaller, eventually dying.
The real bummer about this was that since they have such thick leaves and stout pseudobulbs, they take a LONG time to expire, and they seemed to be reproaching me every day during their decline. Not like a Masdevallia that will drop all its leaves over the course of a few days so that you can get rid of the empty pot and not be constantly reminded of your failure...

I took a pic of the whole plant today to give some notion of scale. Not terribly scientific, but I have sort of "regular sized guy hands" I guess... The pot is a 4 1/2"

Congrats on your blooms, what a sharp color contrast between the lip and petals!
