Rhyncholaelia glauca (former Brassavola)

This is beautiful, with a large lip and very fragrant at night as are all the Brassavolas and relatives. It has not been so often used as a parent as has been its sister, Rhyncholaelia digbyana, but still it has good characteristics for hybridization!

Beautiful. I love the creamy white color of the flowers.

I actually like glauca more than I do digbyana. Don't get me wrong, though; both are very nice plants.

I have always liked the substance and texture of the leaves on this species. Thick, heavy, tough.

Dave, I keep this high in the grh, higher than the cattleyas, so it receives very bright light and also benefits from the somewhat higher temps near the roof. My experience shows that the brighter the light (avoiding direct sunlight), the best is the plant's response. It is planted in coarse medium (charcoal and bark) in order to allow the water drain fast. It is watered every other day during the hot months, slowing down to two times in the winter, sometimes three depending on the air humidity which is very low here during the winter. I use an organic fertilizer three times a year.

Mauro, I'm quite envious of your wonderful plant. Although I have no trouble growing and blooming Rhyncholaelia digbyana, glauca is a species that I've never succeeded with. But now that I've seen your blooms, I might be tempted to go out and buy a few sacrificial plants to experiment with. Who knows, maybe I've become a better grower since I last attempted to grow Rhyncholaelia glauca. And thank you for cultural tips you provided in an earlier response.
