i used moth balls scattered around a tree and over my bed of spring tulips this year....it seemed to work good at repelling the squirrels that were digging them up to eat the bulbs.....havent tried it with orchids, but mine are in a gh.....
Yeah squirrels love bulbs more than anything else. But I think they do not like garlic and are sensitive to hot pepper.
They ate my Eulophia graminea. Chewed my 2 banana plants shoots. They leave ny orchids alone [except the Eulophia bulb]. They ate my dwarf pomegranate spent blooms so no fruits.
But well that is the way it is. I put some orchids on the roof in a crate with some habanero plants and seems ok...
Moth balls may be toxic/ cancerogenic. Rather blend a bunch of fresh garlic and red fresh frozen habaneros [frozen so the seeds do not germinate allover]
My advice still is: Get a cat, one you can let out early in the AM. I still have the little tree rats but she keeps them on the run. I used to have problems with squirrels but no more. whip:
